Birth Records

Government birth records for Keweenaw County start in 1867.  The early births are available on film, or the County Clerk if over 100 years old. If a record is less than 100 years old special requirements have to be met to obtain a copy of a birth record in Michigan.

FHL or LDS Family History Center Film available to order near you.  These films are actual images of the ledger pages kept at  the county seat.

Important Note: It is best to check all the sources available. While transcribing the county records I have noted that the state has records the county does not have and the county has records the state does not have. Remember that the county records are also turned into the state so there may be more transcriptions errors. The county received theirs from the township, medical staff, and family members, so there may be errors in their records also. The original birth record at townships, doctors, etc. are very hard to obtain as many have been lost in various ways over time.
